About two years ago I was talking with my grandfather about photography. My grandfather happens to be an amazing Photographer. When I was little he would let me sit on a stool in his darkroom and watch him make black and white prints. I thought it was the most amazing thing I ever saw. I still think that. While we were talking I mentioned the fact that I had been using my Stepdads old Canon AE-1 and how much fun I was having with it. We got onto the subject of developing film and making prints, etc. I then mentioned how much I had always wanted a darkroom of my very own, but couldn’t possibly afford it. REALLY was not expecting him to then look over to Grandma, look back at me and say “I think I can spare an enlarger and a few trays….to get you started…if you want” I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped for a few minutes. WOW! The next weekend I went to pick up the supplies….not only did he give me an enlarger and trays. He gave me basically his entire Darkroom! I could hardly fit it all in my car. He also gave me his old canon with a number of different lenses, that also fit the canon that I already had. Again…WOW! At any rate, I had no place to set it all up at the time so it sat in my basement for a good year and a half. I finally set it up about six months ago (give or take) after finding out that the only good film developing place in this city closed down….I realized I was going to have to figure out how to do this myself. Nothing like six or seven rolls of black and white film to learn ya how to use a darkroom…..and the internet. I figured it out….through trial and error…..don’t think I did too bad. Here are a few of my favorite prints that i’ve done in my very own Darkroom….Thanks again Grandpa!
